22:07:2010 Bruce Lee returns to Guangzhou
The long-awaited bio pic Bruce Lee, My Brother has started filming in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou.
The movie, based on reminiscences by Lee's young brother, Robert, details The Little Dragon's early years in Hong Kong. It will depict his experiences as a kung fu student, cha cha champion and child actor.
Lee himself is played by actor/singer Aarif Lee, who certainly looks the part in 'Fist of Fury'-esque garb at the Guangzhou press call.
Lee's first love is played by newcomer Jennifer Tse, daughter of Hong Kong screen legend Patrick Tse Yin, a contemporary of Lee's who knew the kung fu idol, though they never worked together.
Cast as Bruce's father, opera star and movie actor Lee Hoi-chuen, is veteran thespian Tony Leung Kar-fai. The same role was played in an earlier ATV Bruce Lee television series by Shaw Bros great Lau Kar-leung.

The commentary for the enthralling period epic Confucius, starring Chow Yun-fat, has joined the Analects of Bey Logan talk tracks.
This lavish historical drama is unusual in that virtually everyone on the cast and crew is from mainland China. I was fortunate to spend some time with both producer John Sham and star Chow Yun-fat (at a recent screening of his film 'Shanghai'), who both gave me some fascinating insights into the making of the movie.
I also ran in to actress Chen Rui, who plays the sage's daughter, at a party in Shanghai, and she too had some interesting tales to tell.
Most period Chinese masterpieces leave you with the desire to learn more martial arts; this one left me keen to learn more about the philosophies of this great man.
BTW a guilty pleasure of the film is hearing a famous Bruce Lee quote performed by its originator!

Newcomer Aarif Lee has been signed to play the late, great Little Dragon in an upcoming feature on the life of Bruce Lee.
Aarif, a Eurasian actor with a passing resemblance to his namesake, made his debut in the critically acclaimed drama Echoes of the Rainbow.
The Bruce Lee project was announced at a press conference called next to the Little Dragon statue on Tsim Sha Tsui's Avenue of Stars.
Though Aarif, real name Lee Chi-ting, declined photographer's requests that he emulate his idol, he did reveal that he had been training in both Wing Chun and western boxing.
Lee, who also has a singing career, will play Bruce in a new bio pic based on a script by the latter's brother, Robert, who was himself a successful singer in Hong Kong. Aarif won Best Song at the Hong Kong Film Awards for his Echoes of the Rainbow title track.

21:06:2010 Son of Ip Man Wins Acting Award at Shanghai festival
Ip Chun, the venerable son of kung fu icon Ip Man, walked away with an unexpected Best Supporting Actor prize at this year's Shanghai Film Festival.
The Wing Chun kung fu exponent won the award in recognition of his role as in 'Ip Man, The Legend Is Born'.
Ip Chun plays Leung Bik, the son of Wing Chun legend, Leung Jaan, who taught the art to Ip Man while the Fatshan native was studying in Hong Kong.
Leung Jaan was a central character in the Sammo Hung-directed classics Warriors Two and Prodigal Son. Ip Chun previously played his father, Ip Man, in the Brucesploitation classic Bruce Lee, The Man, The Myth.
Fans of kung fu cinema can see the grown up martial arts master in action when Cine Asia releases 'Ip Man 2', on which Ip Chun served as technical advisor and consultant.
